Butterfly fish

The butterfly fish is 12 to 20cm and is very bright colors. They are usually yellow, but all have some characteristic in the form of stains, spots or stripes to differentiate species. Many have part of its bright blue body with bright orange stripes. The outside may be green-blue, yellow and black stripes.

Many species of butterfly fish near the tail have a dark circular spot, called ocelli, which is usually interpreted as a decoy that simulates an eye. Thus, the butterfly is more likely to escape attack being attacked by the tail instead of his head. The butterfly fish are named after the shape of their long pectoral fins, as seen from above look like wings of a butterfly. The long spines of the ventral fins also resemble the antennae of a butterfly. They are fairly flat and oval shaped. On one end there is a 'horn', while its tail is fan-shaped.

Some species of butterflyfish are carnivores, and usually their food consists of worms, crustaceans, and the fleshy part of the coral, called polyps. The rest is omnivorous, which means they eat animals and plants such as algae. The brine shrimp larvae being one of the favorite foods of any chaetodon and if they refuse any other food, is what should be offered. Resort to tricks like to offer food from the rock may be the solution to not die shortly after purchase.

In general butterflyfish likes crustaceans, insects and fish. In the wild they feed on benthic invertebrates, polychaete worms and coral polyps especially hard corals. In aquarium can be given live or frozen brine shrimp, chunks of peeled shrimp and spinach in addition to capture the animal organisms in the rock.

The butterfly fish near coral reefs. These fish can be found in the Indo and western Pacific from the Persian Gulf to India, including Japan, Maldives, Indonesia and southern Philippines. In general, butterfly fish are distinguished by their body tends to be circular and flattened their tiny mouths and exotic designs.

The butterfly fish has a life expectancy of 4 years. The butterfly fish farming is quite complicated and not fully understood the process in aquarium. The setting is usually done at night and the female can lay about 200 eggs, large and translucent, floating on the surface because they contain too much fat. This is the time to withdraw with a bowl of eggs to another tank for raising fry.

After a few hours, the eggs turn brown, and about 25 ° C after about two days begin to appear the first fry. The fry down to the bottom of the aquarium to have consumed the yolk sac. Then come to the surface to feed, but only eat food that is alive, so it is recommended based feeding springtails, aphids and young flies, as small as possible. This is the most important if we manage to survive the first few days we can ensure that the offspring will carry on, they are more grown you can feed adult Drosophila.
